Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher for San Marcos Unified School District!

Substitute teachers provide a valuable service to our students and District, and we appreciate the efforts and contributions substitute teachers provide in the absence of the classroom teacher. 
 

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1.    Completed online substitute teaching application via Edjoin.org

2.    Valid California Teaching Credential or Emergency 30-day Substitute Permit:

                            Teaching Credential Requirements

                            Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit 

                            Commission on Teacher Credentialing Information and Fees

3.     Cleared through the San Diego County Office of Education Fingerprint
        Clearinghouse:  
                

                            Fingerprinting Services and Requirements

                            Request for Livescan Service (appointments)

4.     Provide current (within the last 60 days) negative TB test results

5.     Immediate and consistent availability to accept and complete substitute

        teaching assignments within our District (must complete at least one
        assignment in our District in a 90 day period)

 

 

SALARY RATES FOR SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS 

 

       Daily Rate

7.5 Hours

$  120.00

 

    Half Day Rate

3.75 Hours

$    60.00

 

    Long Term Rate

On 21st Day

$  130.00

 The following daily pay rates apply only at secondary schools:

    

     6/5ths Rate

 

 
Teaching 6 periods (no prep period)

 

$  140.00

 

     7/5ths Rate

Teaching 7 periods (no prep period)

$  160.00

  
 

   
** SECONDARY SCHOOLS WITH PREP PERIOD ONLY
In order to receive the 6/5ths or 7/5ths pay rate, you must teach students either 6 or 7 periods during your daily assignment. You will not have a teacher prep period if you accept a 6/5ths or 7/5ths workday. 
 

HOURLY RATE
Substitute Teachers who do not complete a full assignment will be paid at an hourly rate of $16 per hour.  An example of this is when you arrive late for an assignment or leave early.
 

CHANGE IN ASSIGNMENT 
If a substitute teacher arrives at a school site and the assignment has been changed, the new assignment must be accepted and completed in order to be paid for the assignment.  


ASSIGNMENT CANCELLED BY SCHOOL SITE
If a substitute teacher arrives at a school site and the assignment has been cancelled, the substitute teacher will receive 2 hours of compensation if no other assignment is available.
 
Substitute Teachers are responsible for checking the Absence Management website (formerly Aesop) for changes/updates to their assignments.

ABSENCE and SUBSTITUTE MANAGEMENT
(formerly Aesop) 

Absence Management is an automated service that utilizes both the telephone and the Internet to assist you with locating substitute teaching assignments in our District.  The Absence Management system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You may access Absence and Substitute Management online by visiting:
http://www.frontlinek12.com/aesop or calling (800) 942-3767.

Absence Management will make calls to substitutes during the following call times:

          Morning call period:   4:45 am to 08:00 am

          Evening call period:   3:45 pm to 10:00 pm


You will need the following information to access Absence Management:

          User ID:  10 digit phone number

          Pin:         4 or 5 digit number assigned to you
