I am excited to meet my new students for the 2015/2016 school year! I hope everyone had a fantastic summer! This year will be full of exploring, learning, and becoming globally aware. My goal as an educator is to foster creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Throughout the year, students will take action on issues they are passionate about and take their place in society as a POWERFUL force that can change the world to make it a better place.

Mathematicians in the house!
An inquiry into Surface Area-Mathematicians Rock! Common Core mathematics requires a balanced approach to math which includes procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and real-world application. Our 6th grade students kicked off our geometry unit with an application problem involving our lovely assistant principal Mrs. Obrist. Students asked "How much foil would it take to cover Mrs. Obrist's office? What is the surface area of her office? How much much would it cost to pull off this prank?" Special thanks to Mrs. Obrist for being such a great sport and supporting our students' inquiry, motivation, and meaning in mathematics!
We had an amazing 6th Grade Health Fair!
An inquiry into architecture: Students become architects and build geodesic domes from newspaper and tape.
Students were inspired by cainesarcade.com and took the Cardboard Box Challenge! Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students created an arcade out of cardboard box games. They expressed their creativity and innovative design for the enjoyment of all grade levels.
