It has been an honor to teach my 6th grade students this year and watch them transform into curious, knowledgeable, creative, and empathetic global citizens. I wish them the best as they begin a new chapter in their lives and encourage them to continue to take action to change our world to make it a better place! I am also excited to meet my new students for the upcoming 2015/2016 school year. I hope everyone has a fantastic summer!

Mathematicians in the house!
An inquiry into Surface Area-Mathematicians Rock! Common Core mathematics requires a balanced approach to math which includes procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and real-world application. Our 6th grade students kicked off our geometry unit with an application problem involving our lovely assistant principal Mrs. Obrist. Students asked "How much foil would it take to cover Mrs. Obrist's office? What is the surface area of her office? How much much would it cost to pull off this prank?" Special thanks to Mrs. Obrist for being such a great sport and supporting our students' inquiry, motivation, and meaning in mathematics!
We had an amazing 6th Grade Health Fair!
An inquiry into architecture: Students become architects and build geodesic domes from newspaper and tape.
Students were inspired by cainesarcade.com and took the Cardboard Box Challenge! Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students created an arcade out of cardboard box games. They expressed their creativity and innovative design for the enjoyment of all grade levels.
