• English Learner Resource Center  
     
    The English Learner Resource Center is part of the Instructional Services Division and provides support for approximately 4,100 English learner students throughout the San Marcos Unified School District. The Resource Center is involved with a wide range of projects in an effort to meet the needs of students, parents, community members and district staff.

  • Maritza Koeppen, Director of ELLRC and Special Programs

    Maritza Koeppen has been in education for 20 years.  She has taught at the elementary school level in grades kindergarten, fifth, and sixth.  Her teaching career began in San Diego Unified and continued on to the Chula Vista Elementary School District.  She has been a Reading First Literacy Coach, as well as a Project Specialist for the San Diego County Office of Education.  Maritza has experience and training in Literacy and English Language Development and has provided extensive Professional Development opportunities for teachers and administrators in state approved language arts curriculum.  Previously, Maritza was the English Learner Coordinator in La Mesa-Spring Valley.  She received her Bachelor's Degree from San Diego State in Liberal Studies and both her Bilingual Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master's Degree in Bilingual Cross-Cultural Teaching from National University.  Her Administrative Credential was earned through San Diego State and recently finished her Ph.D. through the joint San Diego State and Claremont Graduate School Program.

    Hugo Orozco, Teacher on Special Assignment

    Hugo Orozco is a native to North San Diego County and graduated from San Marcos High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, San Diego, and a teaching credential from California State University, San Marcos. Mr. Orozco has served as an instructional aide, elementary teacher, intervention specialist.  He has been a member of the La Costa Meadows Elementary, Twin Oaks Elementary, and San Marcos Elementary teams. In addition to working with students he has facilitated teacher and parent workshops. He joined the San Marcos Unified School District in 1996.
