    Chinese 1P (8th only)

Welcome to this new 2015-2016 school year! This is a Chinese language course for beginners. It aims to help students develop their communicative competence in Chinese in the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, while gaining competence in Chinese culture, exercising their ability to compare aspects of different cultures, making connections to their daily life, and building links among communities. Basic grammar, vocabulary building, and correct pronunciation are a big emphasis during this year of language instruction. If you are willing to make the effort, you will be successful. I look forward to sharing my passion for language, cultures, and travel with you.

    Listening and Speaking
Students will learn to understand simple questions and answers, statements, and daily conversation. Students will also learn basic vocabulary and sentence structure for use in essential daily-life situations through various forms of oral practice. You will not only learn to use familiar memorized language, but also create language by making up your own conversations.

    Reading and Writing
Students will learn approximately 250-300 characters and expressions in both Pinyin and character form. Students will learn to read and write Chinese characters (and Pinyin) based on course topic. This will include basic sentences and short paragraph length texts.
