Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher for San Marcos Unified School District!

Substitute teachers provide a valuable service to our students and District, and we appreciate the efforts and contributions substitute teachers provide in the absence of the classroom teacher.

We hope to make the application process as seamless as possible so we have provided you with detailed and step-by-step instructions below.

WHAT WILL I NEED
BEFORE I CAN APPLY TO YOUR SUBSTITUTE TEACHER POOL?

 


 

1. Current California Teaching Credential

OR

30-Day Emergency Substitute Permit

OR

Temporary County Certificate (TCC)

 

2. Fingerprint Clearance through both:

California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
Form 41-LS $100

San Diego County Office of Education Fingerprint
Clearinghouse (SDCOE)
Clearinghouse Live Scan $60

Remember:

 

When applying for your Teaching Credential or 30-Day Emergency Substitute Permit, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) required you to be fingerprinted. This is done through the State of California and we do not have access to these records.

As stated above, you will also need to be fingerprinted through San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Fingerprint Clearinghouse so we can verify you have been cleared.

1. Official Transcripts Showing Your Bachelor's Degree or
Higher

2. Basic Skills Requirement - Completion of CBEST

3. Appropriate Fingerprinting

I HAVE A TEACHING CREDENTIAL or 30-DAY EMERGENCY SUBSTITUTE PERMIT, AND I HAVE BEEN CLEARED THROUGH THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION FINGERPRINT CLEARINGHOUSE.

WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP?

 


 

Apply for our posting online at Edjoin.org under San Marcos Unified School District. Please be prepared to have the following five (5) documents available to upload to yourEdjoin.org application:

1. Letter of Introduction

2. Current Resume

3. Valid California Teaching Credential or
30-Day Emergency Substitute Permit or
Temporary County Certificate (TCC)

4. and 5. Two (2) Current Letters of Recommendation (Preferred not required)

Applications that are incomplete or missing attachments will be screened out of the posting.

We accept applications for the substitute teacher pool throughout the school year. Our substitute teacher pool consists of substitute teachers who remain active in our district by completing assignments on a regular basis.

Your application will be screened and, if selected, you will be notified by email through Edjoin.org. This email will provide you will additional instructions.
