    Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a happy, healthy, and restful summer break. We begin anew with all the hope, excitement and promise that a new school year brings. My name is Sandra Orozco, and I will be your child’s teacher this year.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in San Diego. I have a wonderful husband and an energetic teenage son. I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading, running, hiking and relaxing. I attended UCSD and SDSU. Before my teaching career, I was a counselor at a residential facility working with severely emotionally disturbed children. I completed my bachelors degree in psychology and masters in instructional leadership. I am entering my 22nd year of teaching and have taught all grades (K-5) in the Spring Valley School District, Salinas Valley Unified School District in Monterey County, and the San Marcos Unified School District.  I have spent the last 4 years serving as a Teacher in Residence for the School of Education at CSUSM and as a professional development teacher and STEM enrichment coordinator in the SMUSD.

I have embraced the educational reform that we are facing with a positive outlook and a feeling that students should not simply be consumers but producers of information. I look forward to providing your child with a curriculum that is interesting, challenging and engaging. I hope to inspire a desire to face challenges with grit and solve problems with integrity and determination. I feel very fortunate to be here at Joli Ann Elementary working with such a dedicated and professional staff where I know great things can happen.

As parents and teachers we are all working together to ensure that each child reaches his/her potential. This can be accomplished by all of us working together. Please keep all lines of communication open and feel free to schedule a time where we can visit about your child. You may contact me at sandra.orozco@smusd.org

    or (760) 290-2888 X 3301.

    Sincerely,

    Sandra Orozco
