Mrs. Diana Brown
In my role as Intervention Specialist, I support students and teachers in reading and math through small group instruction. What a delight to have the opportunity to work with small groups of students with targeted instruction and help their reading and math abilities take off!
I am celebrating 25 years with SMUSD this year and proud to be working in one of California's most distinguished school districts. My education includes a B.A. in Linguistics from University of California, San Diego, a teacher credential from CSUSM in 1992, and in 2016, a Masters in Educational Administration, also at CSUSM. I am living proof that it is never too late to go back to school!
My focus in graduate school was on Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS). Joli Ann Leichtag Elementary is currently leading the way with it's school-wide PBIS program, which includes clearly articulated and modeled behavior expectations taught and positively reinforced by staff trained in PBIS practices.
Additionally, I am a strong supporter of our Leader in Me character program which is based on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Look for me at Family Nights, helping families learn how to bring the 7 habits home to build strong relationships, develop work ethics, and teach positive character development.
I am a resident of Encinitas, where we raised three wonderful children. My son Alex and his lovely wife, Jennifer, are living in Carlsbad with my first and fabulous grandson, Carson. Dear daughter Erin was recently married to husband Matt and they live and work in Los Angeles, and my youngest daughter, musically talented Stephanie, is a singer/songwriter who works as an Assistant Director for a local music school and has her own band.
I feel privileged every day to work with the Joli Ann community of students, teachers, and parents.
May you have a wonderful year of learning and growing ahead!
