Intra-District transfer applications for the 2021-22 school year will be available online from January 11, 2021, through March 31, 2021. 


For those who live INSIDE SMUSD boundaries wishing to attend a school other than their school of residence.

  • Applications are reviewed and approval is based on space availability contingent upon satisfactory attendance, scholarship and discipline.
  • Current students on an Intradistrict transfer will no longer need to reapply yearly as long as they are continuing at the same school. However, the school of desired attendance may revoke an Intradistrict transfer due to unsatisfactory attendance, behavior and academic achievement or overcrowding.
  • If your permit is employment or child care related, it will be necessary to provide documentation. Employment or child care related transfer requests pertain only to children in grades K-6 and is not automatically granted.
  • Transportation to school, KOC or After School Programs is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
  • You will be notified in writing or email once your transfer has been approved. Applicants who receive approval must confirm their enrollment within 2 weeks.

Please be advised that, in compliance with compulsory education law, your student must be enrolled in his/her resident school until you are notified that your transfer request has been approved. We cannot be responsible for any decisions on the part of parents to keep their students out of school pending approval of a transfer permit.

If an Intra District transfer is approved, the student may remain at the school until completion of the school's highest grade level if they maintain satisfactory attendance, scholarship and behavior.

Parents of promoting 5th and 8th grade students wanting to attend middle school or high school other than their designated school of residence must submit an intradistrict transfer permit during the application period to be considered for approval.

False or Misleading Residential Information

Students found to be using fraudulent addresses or who no longer live within a school’s attendance boundary and did not report their change of residency to school official within 30 days of the actual move and did not apply for a valid transfer, will immediately be re-enrolled at the school located within their attendance area. They will not be granted an intradistrict transfer. Other penalties such as loss of athletic eligibility may be imposed by the CIF.
