COVID-19 FAQs

  • Students who test positive and are experiencing symptoms: Remain at school if symptoms are mild and improving. Like other illnesses, if symptoms include a fever, students should stay home for 24 hours until the fever breaks without using fever-reducing medications.

    Parents, please notifiy the school attendance office if your child is absent.

  • Employees who test positive for COVID-19 should report their illness by completing this online form: Employee Report of Positive COVID-19 Test

    Once the employee completes the online reporting form, no further action is needed.
     

    Staff who test positive and are experiencing symptoms: Employees who test positive for COVID-19 may remain at work if their symptoms are mild and improving. Like other illnesses, if symptoms include a fever, you should stay home for 24 hours until the fever breaks without using fever-reducing medications.

     

    Staff who test positive and are NOT experiencing symptoms: Remain at work.

     

    California Supplemental Paid Leave (CSPSL) expired on 12/31/22. Employees who are absent from work due to COVID-19 illness should report their absence in Frontline as self sickness. Beginning 1/1/23, all COVID-related absences will be treated as medical leave and will be deducted from the employee's paid sick leave.

  • Individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms should stay home if symptoms are not mild and/or they have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher.

    If you are experiencing a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, you should stay home for 24 hours until the fever breaks without using fever-reducing medications.

    Students
    Parents/guardians must contact the school health or attendance office directly when their child is absent due to illness. If a student develops symptoms of illness during the school day, they will be sent to the health office to be assessed. If symptoms are not mild, have worsened over the previous 24 hours, and/or a fever of 100.5 degrees or higher is detected, they should go home.

    Employees
    Employees must notify their direct supervisor and create an absence in Frontline if they stay home due to illness. If a staff member develops symptoms of illness while at work and symptoms are severe and/or a fever of 100.4 degrees is detected, they should go home.

  • Yes, most at-home COVID-19 test kits can be used past the expiration date. 

    The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has endorsed the use of all FDA-authorized over-the-counter COVID-19 tests well beyond their expiration. The majority of test kits distributed by SMUSD have been FlowflexInteliSwab, and iHealth (click on hyperlinks for extension details).
