Definition:
A process of using a task analysis as the basis for a
pre-assessment, allowing teacher to choose
objective(s) for beginning the instruction at a level at
which all students may experience progress in learning.
- Formulate terminal objective.
- Do task analysis.
- Design pre-assessment.
- Interpret pre-assessment data.
- Decide where to begin teaching.

Teaches to the Objective
Definition:
There are four teacher actions a teacher might choose to use:
- Generate relevant information (providing input that exactly matches the sub-objective(s)
- Generate relevant activities
- Generate relevant questions
- Generate relevant responses to student efforts (responses made by teacher after student has tried a task)
